Support Help for Database Settings

Videos21Settings.html

Overview

This portion of the program allows users to select how they want their program to function. It also includes features to assist the user to diagnose problems and issues with the database to quickly get matters rectified and working again if needed. These functions change from time to time, to meet the needs of the program.

Jump to POWERDOWN® Instructions

Settings

You will see "radio buttons" on the left side of the form. These fields allow you to select how your program functions. Mostly these are reminders that you can turn off and on as you choose.

Dialog Box Return from Form

This turns off the warning message for how to return to the form you were on previously. This is primarily for new users to help them understand how to get back to their form from a report. This is because the field for returning is 'invisible' mainly designed so one can use the program on touch screen devices.

Help Tips

This again is primarily designed for new users. Having this on will give the user additional information about the function and portion of the program the user is currently using.

Include Signature in Emails

This automatically adds your contact information to emails you send out in some cases, not necessarily all emails at present, but primarily for emails from the Contacts Form.

Include SEC with CBOE in Emails

This, if selected, will also include the SEC in emails for further confirmation of the receipt of any correspondence you send.

Enable Password

This allows you to really 'lock down' your program so as to keep it confidential.

Hide Toolbars

The program is designed to work without Toolbars showing. However, for the more advanced user, they may want the more advanced functions that Filemaker makes available.

Specs Box

This will show some basic information about your database. When sending feedback, this is the type of information that will be sent.

Other Features

POWERDOWN® Feature

This feature allows you to automatically shut down the program when not in use. If you walk away from your computer and the database is still open, there could be 1) a security issue with leaving an open database on your machine and 2) if the computer goes into sleep or does another operation like a backup, you might lose data.

You can change these settings by going to the Top Menu and clicking on "Support" and then turning on POWERDOWN® ON or OFF. You can also change these Settings under "Settings" where you are now by going to the bottom of the form and add or take away additional seconds. You can add an unlimited number of seconds, even if it is not in the dropdown selection. If you elect to turn off POWERDOWN® you will get an occasional reminder to use this feature. In the future, it will continue to be refined. It works much like your banking webpage...when it does not detect activity, it asks if you want to continue working. If you take a long time to type on a field on a page, it may ask if you would like to continue working even though you ARE working on that form. This is normal because the program cannot 'see' you working in one field in most cases. This will be improved in time however.

A Word of Caution - This function is designed to help you avoid potential problems inherent to working in a database application. If the database application is not closed properly, then you CAN lose data. While you may view this as an annoyance at first, give it some time and adjust the timing if needed. Intentionally disabling this function may result in data loss due to improper shut down of your database!

System Check

Run a quick check on your system and then write for support if you want at the end of the check.

View on iPhone

If you get somewhere in the program on the iPhone and end up on forms that do not view well on the iPhone, you can come back here and click this button to get you back to iPhone forms. Please note, that forms for the iPhone are a work in progress. Only a few have been converted for use on the iPhone, mostly centering on the Contacts form.

Import Export Page

This allows you to perform direct imports of data into the program from a variety of sources
